Dear Maine TU Member,

As you may have heard by now, the State Council for TU will be hosting Trout Camp again. The camp is scheduled for June 23 – 27, 2024.  We’ll be vetting and inviting 12 campers ranging in age from 12-17.  We envision having 2 campers from each TU Chapter in Maine.  If a chapter doesn’t put forth two candidates, any additional spots available will be opened up to all.   We’re looking for volunteers to help out in several categories.  Any skill you can bring to the table is appreciated.  We’re aiming for a minimum of 12 volunteers each day, six of which will stay overnight.

Our two aims are: to collect enough information about your availability, interests and qualifications to fairly assign an appropriate role for you in the camp; and to collect information to do a reference and where appropriate, background checks on volunteer applicants.  We’ve tried to make the form comprehensive enough to prevent us from having to contact you multiple times to clarify information and to save you the inconvenience if submitting a resume.  We understand that this is a more involved process than you may have gone through before, but we have adopted measures that we feel are appropriate both to protect the campers and to satisfy insurance requirements.

Here is a list of the activities that the campers will be going experiencing and being educated about.  This may help you in identifying for us what role you may be able to assist in.

Hands on Activities

Fly Rod Casting

  • Fishing Knots
  • Fly Tying
  • Fishing Equipment
  • Wading and Wading Safety
  • Stream/Pond Etiquette
  • Reading Water

Educational Activities

  • Conservation
  • Fish Life Cycle
  • Trout Dissection
  • Where Fish find Food
  • Stream Habitat

Additionally, the campers will have guided fly fishing each night from supper until dark.  We hope that your availability will lend itself to our scheduling you either all day or a PM to AM on successive days.

Please feel free to use the back of the form if you need to add more information than there is room for on the form.  Please send completed forms via email to  r.cotiaux@gmail.com

We’re going to need the full support of all Maine TU Chapters to get enough volunteers to ensure a safe and successful camp, so please apply and get your friends to apply as well.

Sincerely
